To understand the importance and usefulness of MBA in Environmental Management, there is a need to first learn what environmental management is? It is a branch of science, which deals with the different elements of environment and managing the resources in order to keep a balance between those elements. It is very important to protect our environment.

There are a countless businesses in the world, which involve production of almost each and every commodity of human use. Unfortunately production these things, is causing damage to our natural environment, which is very dangerous for our survival. For example, smoke of factories pollutes the whole surrounding environment therefore causes serious diseases. Timber business is causing non repairable damage to forests all around the globe. Besides these examples, almost every business is contributing towards environmental pollution, somehow or the other.

A need was felt to develop an infrastructure which should analyze and devise ways and means to avoid damage to environment. Keeping this in view an exclusive study program was developed known as MBA in Environmental Management.

Purpose and Scope

MBA in this field is designed to produce professionals who understand business, its effects on environment and managing the whole thing. A person with background knowledge of environmental science can step into business community by undertaking this masters degree program.

Course Outline

Following major subjects are incorporated in MBA Environmental Management.

Business Science
Accounting
Auditing
Waste Management
Environmental Chemistry
Environmental Assessment
Communication Skills

Environmental Science with Business Management is an excellent combination which provides better understanding of worst effects of business over environment. Professionals in this field can be very helpful in making the environment clean.

Career Prospect

Holder of MBA can be offered any of the following jobs in industry:

Waste Management Supervisor
Environmental Technologist
Field Waste Characterization Specialist

Eco-tourism

Responsible tourism means all tourism directly dependent on the use of natural life e.g. wildlife and landscape. Nature based tourism include eco-tourism and mass tourism. Uncontrolled mass tourism continues to contribute to the degradation of natural & cultural significance (commercialization of Culture) thus leading or causing loss of biological and cultural biodiversity, and important sources of income. Nature based tourism offers a way of financing unique ecosystems preservation. This provides opportunity for the community living near the protected areas to benefit economically e.g. employment opportunity. But Nature based tourism & travel while sustaining eco-system also degrades them. Much nature based tourism falls short of social responsibility to the local community.

Sustainable tourism is developed and managed in such a way that all tourism activities will focus on a heritage resource, natural and cultural which can be continued imminently and every effort is made to maintain the resource to perpetuity.
According to hector Ceballos-Lascurian (1983) ecotourism means “the tourism that involves travelling to relatively undisturbed natural area with the object of admiring, studying and enjoying the scenery and its wild plants and animals as well as cultural features found there.”

Eco-tourism embraces four basic elements:-
The natural environment as the primary attraction and the cultural environment playing a secondary role
The sustainable use of the ecological and cultural environment.
Focus on education and the interpretation of the resource
Provision of the benefit to the host community
Tourism is about people and places where one group of people leave, visit and pass through places, the people who make the trip possible and the people encountered in the tour, it involves travellers, host communities and governments.

In tourism industry the destination is perhaps one of the most important elements. The destination region represents the raison d’tre for tourism and the tourist attraction at the destination generates the visit. Tourism product is consumed where it is produced (destination). Hence the destination comes under considerable pressure from high levels of demand focused both in time and at specific sites for example the warm East Africa, Indian Ocean coastal beaches during the northern hemisphere winter.

Tourist pressures can lead to alteration of the tourism resource and as tourism resource and as tourist demand continues to raise so have many destinations around the world succumbed to environmental degradation. The impact that some form of tourism development has on the environment has raised concern among environmentalist and other constituents. Therefore professional management and planning of destination are critical if tourism is to contribute to their conservation and to be perceived as an acceptable industry in a world whose survival is threatened.

Tourism demand unspoilt environment in which to operate. It is essential that tour operation should be developed and managed in such a way that as to protect the natural assets. We subscribe to the fact that the extent to which tourism is developed, planned and controlled in an orderly and coordinated manner will affect the long-term quality of the tourism product and subsequently the success of the hospitality Industry. While tourism can be a catalyst for development, it is important for the government agencies plan and develop tourism carefully so that the benefit can be optimized without creating social and environmental problems

Low impact forms of tourism counteracts the effects of mass tourism that poses a number of challenges on the resource base i.e. environment, society, and economy. Low impact forms of tourism create a balance between environment quality and resource utilization. This is mainly aimed at empowering local communities in managing their natural resources that is creating an incentive to conserve the biological resource in the environment by allowing the beneficial effects from tourism filter down to the individual families and households.

Alternative tourism is seen as forms of tourism that are consistent with natural social and community values and which allows both the host and the guest to enjoy positive and worthwhile interaction and shared experience it is also known variously as ecotourism, nature tourism sustainable tourism environmentally friendly, environmentally sensitive, ecological compatible ecologically sound or Green and eco-tour such as Walking tours, Birds Safari, Camel safaris Guided nature walks, horse riding safaris, bicycle tours, home and farm stays, youth tourism.

Many destinations marketed as responsible tourism does not consider the local community development, economical, social welfare and human rights. Indeed majority of them care less about the resource as long as it brings the “green bill “. There must be concern with staff and tourist education i.e. the expected visitors’ behaviour. Thus in this, nature based tourism is formulated as sustainable development. The concept of set principles, Ties 1991 defined it as responsible travel to natural areas that conserve the environment and sustains the well being of the local people.

The Australian livestock industry spans across an incredible 47% of Australia’s landmass, so has a big impact on the environmental sustainability of the country. The management practices of our farmers can either have a positive impact on our natural resources or if badly managed can have a detrimental impact.

Environment degradation

Australian livestock farmers haven’t always managed the environment as sustainably as they do today. As with many industries there were some historical practices that we now look back on and find it hard to believe that people thought they were doing the right thing. For example, the clearing of large parts of native vegetation in southern Australia lead to some severe examples of environment degradation. The government actually required farmers to totally clear their land, with the belief that to farm in Australia the environment needed to look and be more like how it was in Europe. Of course this didn’t turn out to work that well and if farming practices had continued this way on mass it would have ultimately lead to the environmental and economic sustainability of the livestock industry being in jeopardy.

What is a sustainable environment for the livestock industry?

If the livestock industry as a whole didn’t manage natural resources well it would mean that the industry could not continue to operate. Simply put, the industry needs good quality soils, grasses, vegetation and water ways to be able to raise cattle. Farmers today think of themselves as managing a number of living organisms – their cattle, the grasses on their property, the trees and other vegetation on their property and importantly the soils on their property which ultimately underpin the whole operation. Environmental sustainability for the livestock industry means that all of these living things are healthy and working in harmony with one another.

Sustainable economic development

Livestock farmers have been managing the twin challenges of sustainability, at the same time as striving to increase productivity in the context of a highly variable climate. For farmers managing natural resources is intrinsically tied with economic sustainability and neither can be dealt with in isolation.

Ensuring environmental sustainability

The Australian red meat industry and the federal government are working together on a number of programs to ensure the industry is environmentally sustainable. Meat and Livestock Australia coordinates a large research and development program on behalf of the industry focused on addressing soil erosion, dryland salinity and soil acidification.

The industry is also focused on farmer training to ensure that as improved farming techniques are developed that practices are changed on farm. Training takes many forms from formal to community groups.

Environment Volunteer

As well as managing their own properties many farmers are active environment volunteers. The most common group that farmers volunteer through is Landcare. Landcare was jointly established 20 years ago by the Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) and the National Farmers’ Federation (NFF). Initially Landcare focused on improving natural resources on farms and surrounding catchment areas. Landcare provides grants for farmers to undertake projects on their property, often with the help from environment volunteers to help with things like tree planting or clearing weeds. Farmers also get tog

GIS mapping is used around the world by cities large and small, and countries large and small to maintain the delicate balance of ecosystems and urban forests. GIS has numerous, well developed applications for the sciences, especially forestry, ecology, biology, wildlife management, and geology. In addition, GIS is an effective, if not necessary tool in managing the modern issues of park management, with some of the larger, well know parks receiving millions of visitors a year. GIS helps park managers and resource managers accomplish research, maintenance, modeling, and management on a daily basis. Chances are, the city you live in has its’ parks in a GIS.

Natural resource management is a multi-disciplinary, science base field that balances economic and environmental considerations. As there is a strong research component to resource management, GIS mapping is used to model and manage wildlife populations, timber growth and harvest, and manage environmental quality. Water resources falls into this category, where GIS is an important tool for identifying pollution sources and solutions that comply with state and federal environmental laws. One example is the County of Sacramento’s use of GIS mapping to identify non-point sources of water pollution, the types of land use that contribute the most pollution, and an evaluation of planning related scenarios to mitigate and reduce these sources. Not every GIS mapping solution has to be complex. In fact, many solutions are quite simple, but could not be accomplished without GIS due to the fact it represents data geographically, or spatially. A simple map showing the location of heavy metal discharging factories in proximity to open water is an example. It is not a complex map to create, but the visual impact is apparent to even novices.

People who would like to learn about the environment and the health of our planet might find natural resource management online schools an interesting educational path. Online schools will allow you to prepare for an important profession concerning the Earth’s water, marine life, atmosphere, agriculture, forests, fisheries, wildlife, and biological systems.

Imagine a course that you can take at your leisure to become an expert in protecting and maintaining the Earth’s natural resources–this is what online schools can offer you. If your goal is to work in agriculture or ranching, you can become well-versed in these areas with an online education from natural resource management schools. And, the best part is you will not have to set foot in a classroom. This is especially helpful for those who live in remote areas of the country and are unable to attend campus-based colleges.

Perhaps you are interested in ecology and conservation; natural resource management schools will allow you to focus your studies in these areas. You can learn the ins and outs of environmental management and maintaining an ecological balance to benefit the world and all its living creatures. An online education can provide excellent preparation for farmers, ranchers, scientists, biologists, park service employees, business people and especially environmental policy makers.

A course in natural resources management will cover the social and economic, biological, and environmental engineering aspects of managing the world’s natural resources as an integrated system. Advanced classes allow the student to specialize in various fields of study. Some students will want to focus on the physical Earth resources, such as hydrology, water management and quality, waste management, soil properties, energy resources, etc. Others will want to concentrate on biotic resources, which includes all living things: plants, animals, insects, microorganisms. Students who wish to prepare for management and administrative positions must have a broad understanding of the social, biological and physical aspects of managing and allocating our natural resources; these students will specialize in the social sciences. You can expect classes in agriculture, biology, chemistry, geology, mathematics, and ecology as a part of the general curriculum.

Upon graduation, you could qualify for many important positions. Depending on your educational focus, you could find employment with various related Federal government agencies such as Army Corps of Engineers, National Park Service, Fish and Wildlife Service, Geological Survey, Bureau of Indian Affairs, U.S. Department of the Interior, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Reclamation, or the Agency for International Development. Natural resource management online schools can even help you prepare to join the Peace Corps.

In the private sector, you could apply for a position with a resource consulting firm, a water organization, mining and forest products companies, and a variety of conservation and environmental organizations. Perhaps your goal is to instruct others about managing our natural resources in a college or university setting, and you can prepare for such a career through online natural resource management schools.

A landscape designer is someone who has great passion in exploring the beauty of merging art and science together for the uniqueness and its excellent piece of astonishing buildings or land-yards with its finely decorated gardens and natural landscape surroundings. He is responsible to further enhance the beauty of the streets, walkways, play-ground, and also to restore the uniqueness of the natural habitats. This is the end result from an overly-advanced modern technology with many high rise buildings replacing the old habitat such as forest, lake and fountains along the mountains.

The designer’s work can be performed by preparing the design, specifications, and cost estimates for any assigned projects. Landscape architects talent is needed in many types of organizations such as the Government, Universities, Colleges, Hospitals, & many more. Most of their projects are on recreational parks and highways landscaping.

The work of a landscape designer is to make places look beautiful by planning, designing and managing open spaces including both natural and built environments. They work to provide innovative and aesthetically pleasing environments for people to enjoy, whilst ensuring that changes to the natural environment are appropriate, sensitive and sustainable. A landscape designer need to have the ability to assess a site’s potential to meet the client’s specifications as well.

Their work covers diverse projects for both urban and rural, which ranges from designing the layout of parks, gardens and housing estates to city-centre design to improving land affected by mining or motorway construction.

A landscape architect’s job may involve:
o surveying the site and investigating its natural resources and features as well as the wildlife and plants in the area
o using computer-aided design (CAD) packages to turn ideas for the project into plans
o choosing trees, shrubs and plants that will suit the land type and the needs of the site
o making sure there is suitable access to the site for disabled people and other users, for example people with pushchairs
o estimating the costs of constructing the landscape and maintaining it once it is complete
o giving presentations about the project to groups including clients, council committees, local people, and occasionally public enquiries
o once the initial work is kick-off, always remain close visit the site to make sure the designs are being followed and work is running smoothly.

Our society today seems to have an overabundance of skin problems that manifest and continue to become chronic. Our retail stand at a local farmers market in Southeastern Pennsylvania is a focal point for folks who seem to have more of their share of these issues, as we market products that offer natural relief for such conditions.

In many cases, these people have been to medical doctors and have been prescribed varied medications that don’t seem to have worked so well. I recall one man who had eczema so bad on his hands that were raw and bleeding. He said that the medications that had been prescribed to him were not working at all and he was desperate for any kind of relief.

We suggested the application of a natural based salve, containing medicinal turpentine and Liquefied Phenol (also known as carbolic acid, an element used in sterilizing medical instruments) combined in a base of petrolatum, paraffin and cottonseed oil. The phenol sterilizes the area, killing any bacteria present and the paraffin and cottonseed oil coats the area and stops any itching which is a major cause of discomfort with eczema.

The man returned a week later with remarkable results. The affected area had shrunk markedly and his report of relief from the pain and itching was very positive.

While this remedy will not cure the underlying cause of most skin conditions, it will give ongoing relief. The recommended method of treatment of applying the salve before bedtime, then wrapping the area with a bandage or soft cloth, keeps the area apart from the environment so it won’t rub off, thus affording ongoing treatment and continuous healing.

Another example was the man who showed us his hands which were extremely dry and cracked due to the fact that his job required that he sort cardboard pieces all day long. His hands were raw and bleeding in many places. Our suggestion of applying the salve at night, then wearing cotton gloves brought his hands back to a manageable state in about a week.

These conditions are likely the result of diet, heredity, or environmental issues in many cases. If caused by diet, we recommend that people cut down or get off of sugar completely, eat more healthy foods, more green vegetable, etc. It is also good to build up the immune system, increase the B and C vitamin groups, and drink more pure water on a daily basis.

If you are in the mood to avoid buying weight loss guides or having to go to the gym and spend money to hire a professional work-out trainer then there is no need to fret over your chances of cutting on fats and losing weight. This is because of the fact that you can always opt to work on natural weight management. This takes place when you take the usual diet-exercising routine comfortably out of the gym environment and the pills and supplements. This is then turned into a part of your own lifestyle to make you feel like you are losing weight and maintaining what you have without really doing anything but living your normal daily routine.

To achieve this you have to consider that natural weight management still involves a lot of ideas that you would find in a regular diet but these are integrated into smaller bits and then distributed into your overall routine.

Prepare your food differently.

This may seem like an odd first choice but it actually contributes a lot to your weight management. If you have been working out constantly and have achieved significant weight loss then you want to maintain that but you still need to eat food. By processing your beef and chicken via boiling or roasting you are burning away the fats and carbohydrates and welcoming in the proteins. Proteins help you get full and they are useful in toning muscles and this is the key factor in turning out fats into something useful for your body through exercising.

Eat small meals throughout the day.

Again, in a way to help you feel full but still eating is to split your meals into smaller meals throughout the day and then nibble away on your new eating schedule. This also helps you eat whatever you want since you are now regulating what you eat in sporadic time tables.

Eat away from home.

If you must have candy or some other rewarding meal then eat it out of the home to avoid eating too much while sitting in front of the television or computer. By going to the mall you make yourself walk through the parking lot, walk through the shopping aisles and you only get to eat the small amount that you bought. This also helps you lose the impulse to buy junk food and when you’re in the grocery you might end up buying healthy food instead since your diet has been making you get used to the new difference in what you eat.

Split your workout.

By working out for only fifteen minutes you are burning enough calories you need without the problem of muscle loss and over-tiring yourself. This also means you can work-out in the morning and evening and with some exercises in-between to help you manage your weight while still getting enough rest.

All of these can be worked into your regular, daily routine to help you maintain your weight without having to drastically change your diet or get into a gym-heavy work-out session. This is the core point of natural weight management.

Buzz words abound in business especially when it involves how management handles change. One of the more current popular terms in the first decade of the 21st century is sustainability. This word is linked with a variety of other words such as:

Business results
Consulting
Environment
Green business
Improving and streamlining business operations
Initiatives
Plan
Practices in business
Services
Solutions

Reading many articles on sustainability management, there is a strong emphasis on the environment specific to the 3 Rs

Reduce
Recycle
Reuse

This buzz word has added two other Rs that being Rethink and Redesign.

Yet sustainability is not just about the environment, but rather looks to how resources are most efficiently and effectively utilized within any organization. This rethinking suggests that two additional elements present in any organization that need to be included when thinking about how to best leverage limited resources so that they will not be wasted.

People
Processes (Operations)

When management expands the sustainability definition by including these two other elements or components, this rethinking helps to create a more natural alignment between the 5 areas as defined by Galbraith in his Five Star Model and truly starts an innovative process of redesign:

Strategy
Structure
Processes
Incentive
People

From the earlier work of pioneers such as Paul Hawken, Amory and Hunter Lovins, natural capitalism is far easier to embrace when looking at all three elements of people, processes and environment instead at just the last one. Natural capitalism is concerned about:

Dramatically increasing productivity by better use of existing resources

Shifting to natural products or more biologically inspired thus reducing waste and toxic refuse

Moving to a business model emphasizing “service and flow” through performance, quality and utility instead of just selling a product

Reinvesting in natural capital through sustaining, restoring and expanding the flows of natural capital

Organizations do not function in a vacuum and the operations are interdependent. People (internal customers or human capital) may work in one department, but their efforts usually transcend into other departments or business operations. By creating awareness and uniting the entire workforce to be more efficient and effective regarding the use of existing resources can only help the bottom line.

Change management initiatives can propel any organization to new levels of productivity to profitability provided the executive managers are willing to go beyond the 3Rs and look to rethinking and redesign as they look to embrace sustainable practices in business. By taking this action, sustainability plans will expand beyond the environment and will develop responsible leaders who are stewards of their worlds both personally and professionally.

Going on a cycle of antibiotics has usually been included in a good acne remedy routine. Nevertheless, the growing concerns on the side effects of continuous use of antibiotics have put an emphasis on alternative healing techniques or natural acne cures.

For a long time, antibiotics have been the only answer to ridding of the annoying symptoms and stopping further breakouts of acne. Their aggressive anti-acne action was deemed useful in handling the general causes of acne, such as acne promoting bacteria build-up, excessive sebum on the skin and clogged pores. The antibiotics used alleviated symptoms by lessening the body’s inflammatory reaction, which lessens the focus of free fatty acids in the sebum.

Sebum is the natural oil released by the sebaceous glands on the skin and acne-causing bacteria generally flourish on sebum and dead skin cells. For small to large cases of acne, different types of antibiotics were tried to give instant and effective relief. Nonetheless, the constant and ongoing use of antibiotics on acne results in side effects that leads from small to grave dangers to health. When a growing number of people that have acne are stopping their antibiotics, more and more people are examining the effectiveness and major health advantages of natural acne cures as being the safer and the other answer to obtaining soft, healthy and acne-free skin.

Effectiveness of Antibiotics

There is no doubt that antibiotics work in ridding of acne. Nevertheless, their advantages are extremely limited due to their acne curing make up. In reality any acne-causing bacteria is pretty useless. This is because bacteria are part of the natural environment of the skin so they are present everywhere. Topical antibiotics are not effective in managing breakouts of acne causing bacteria because all the removed bacteria can simply be replaced because of the excess production of natural skin oil from overactive sebaceous glands. Excessive oil in addition to a build up of dead skin cells make for an ideal place for acne causing bacteria. In this case, the effectiveness of antibiotics is slim and antibiotic acne treatment does not provide permanent outcomes because it does not treat the actual cause of the acne formation.

There have been talks on whether or not topical antibiotics are more effective than orally administered antibiotics in treating acne or vice versa. Nonetheless, it is the orally taken antibiotics that lead to more side effects because it eliminates all sorts of bacteria that it encounters, such as the beneficial bacteria that are in the stomach. This in result causes trouble with your insides. Eliminating both beneficial and bad bacteria will certainly disrupt the regular activity of organs and systems that leave you more vulnerable to infections and disorders such as chronic acne.
