Managing Skin Problems The Natural Way

February 18th, 2012 Comments off

Our society today seems to have an overabundance of skin problems that manifest and continue to become chronic. Our retail stand at a local farmers market in Southeastern Pennsylvania is a focal point for folks who seem to have more of their share of these issues, as we market products that offer natural relief for such conditions.

In many cases, these people have been to medical doctors and have been prescribed varied medications that don’t seem to have worked so well. I recall one man who had eczema so bad on his hands that were raw and bleeding. He said that the medications that had been prescribed to him were not working at all and he was desperate for any kind of relief.

We suggested the application of a natural based salve, containing medicinal turpentine and Liquefied Phenol (also known as carbolic acid, an element used in sterilizing medical instruments) combined in a base of petrolatum, paraffin and cottonseed oil. The phenol sterilizes the area, killing any bacteria present and the paraffin and cottonseed oil coats the area and stops any itching which is a major cause of discomfort with eczema.

The man returned a week later with remarkable results. The affected area had shrunk markedly and his report of relief from the pain and itching was very positive.

While this remedy will not cure the underlying cause of most skin conditions, it will give ongoing relief. The recommended method of treatment of applying the salve before bedtime, then wrapping the area with a bandage or soft cloth, keeps the area apart from the environment so it won’t rub off, thus affording ongoing treatment and continuous healing.

Another example was the man who showed us his hands which were extremely dry and cracked due to the fact that his job required that he sort cardboard pieces all day long. His hands were raw and bleeding in many places. Our suggestion of applying the salve at night, then wearing cotton gloves brought his hands back to a manageable state in about a week.

These conditions are likely the result of diet, heredity, or environmental issues in many cases. If caused by diet, we recommend that people cut down or get off of sugar completely, eat more healthy foods, more green vegetable, etc. It is also good to build up the immune system, increase the B and C vitamin groups, and drink more pure water on a daily basis.

Natural Weight Management: How to Go About It

February 18th, 2012 Comments off

If you are in the mood to avoid buying weight loss guides or having to go to the gym and spend money to hire a professional work-out trainer then there is no need to fret over your chances of cutting on fats and losing weight. This is because of the fact that you can always opt to work on natural weight management. This takes place when you take the usual diet-exercising routine comfortably out of the gym environment and the pills and supplements. This is then turned into a part of your own lifestyle to make you feel like you are losing weight and maintaining what you have without really doing anything but living your normal daily routine.

To achieve this you have to consider that natural weight management still involves a lot of ideas that you would find in a regular diet but these are integrated into smaller bits and then distributed into your overall routine.

Prepare your food differently.

This may seem like an odd first choice but it actually contributes a lot to your weight management. If you have been working out constantly and have achieved significant weight loss then you want to maintain that but you still need to eat food. By processing your beef and chicken via boiling or roasting you are burning away the fats and carbohydrates and welcoming in the proteins. Proteins help you get full and they are useful in toning muscles and this is the key factor in turning out fats into something useful for your body through exercising.

Eat small meals throughout the day.

Again, in a way to help you feel full but still eating is to split your meals into smaller meals throughout the day and then nibble away on your new eating schedule. This also helps you eat whatever you want since you are now regulating what you eat in sporadic time tables.

Eat away from home.

If you must have candy or some other rewarding meal then eat it out of the home to avoid eating too much while sitting in front of the television or computer. By going to the mall you make yourself walk through the parking lot, walk through the shopping aisles and you only get to eat the small amount that you bought. This also helps you lose the impulse to buy junk food and when you’re in the grocery you might end up buying healthy food instead since your diet has been making you get used to the new difference in what you eat.

Split your workout.

By working out for only fifteen minutes you are burning enough calories you need without the problem of muscle loss and over-tiring yourself. This also means you can work-out in the morning and evening and with some exercises in-between to help you manage your weight while still getting enough rest.

All of these can be worked into your regular, daily routine to help you maintain your weight without having to drastically change your diet or get into a gym-heavy work-out session. This is the core point of natural weight management.
